BJP on Sunday accused Congress workers of issuing “death threats” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after a video surfaced showing them shouting “Modi teri kabra khudegi” ahead of the Opposition’s rally at Ramlila Maidan. BJP leader Pradeep Bhandari posted the clip online, calling it proof of the Congress’s “extremist mindset,” and said the public would respond with the slogan, “Modi tera kamal khilega.”

Pradeep Bhandari further alleged that Congress Mahila Morcha workers who shouted “Modi teri kabra khudegi” were now claiming that “unrest can happen on the streets, like in other countries.”

He said the shift from issuing “death threats” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to openly predicting street violence showed Congress workers under Rahul Gandhi were gathering at Ramlila Maidan “to create unrest against Indian democracy and to protect illegal infiltrators.” Bhandari added, “It’s People of India vs Congress now.”

The controversy erupted as Congress prepares to hold a rally at Ram Lilla Maidan on Monday. Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said the rally at Ramlila Maidan marks a “step towards a decisive political battle,” asserting that large crowds are expected. “Our party has organised the ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ rally… the Congress party has taken a step towards a decisive battle,” Baghel said.

The “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod” campaign has been building momentum in recent weeks. On November 27, tensions escalated in Lucknow when Youth Congress workers protesting over the SIR issue attempted to breach police barricades near the Vidhan Sabha. Several demonstrators were detained after refusing to disperse. Youth Congress leaders accused police of using force against a peaceful protest, vowing to continue their agitation.

Amid the political confrontation, Independent MP Pappu Yadav criticised the Election Commission over its handling of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, calling the poll body “Dhritrashtra” and accusing it of ignoring constitutional norms. The Supreme Court recently allowed the EC to proceed with the revision while advising it to consider Aadhaar, ration cards and EPIC as valid identity documents.

BJP MP Yogender Chandolia backed the EC’s approach and said names of foreign nationals, including those from Nepal, Myanmar and Bangladesh, must be removed from electoral rolls. He urged similar exercises in other states to ensure electoral integrity.

The war of words continues as political temperatures rise ahead of the Congress rally, now shadowed by the slogan controversy and a sharp BJP counterattack.
