Netanyahu falls ill: Israeli PM suffering from food poisoning; will work from home for 3 days

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is suffering from a case of food poisoning, as confirmed by his office on Sunday., as quoted by Reuters. He plans to continue his official responsibilities whilst resting at his residence for next three days. The 75-year-old leader experienced illness during the night, with doctors diagnosing him with inflammation of the intestines and dehydration. He is currently receiving IV fluids as part of his treatment. “In accordance with his doctors’ instructions, the prime minister will rest at home for the next three days and will manage state affairs from there,” said his office. His current illness has reportedly caused the corruption trial against him to be postponed once again, with the next court appearance not scheduled before September due to a summer recess in the court system, according to the Times of Israel reports. The trial had been delayed multiple times since it began in May 2020, as the Israeli premier requested postponements, initially citing the war in Gaza and subsequently the conflict in Lebanon. In the first case, Prime Minister Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, were accused of accepting over $260,000 worth of luxury goods, including cigars, jewellery and champagne, from billionaires in exchange for political favours. Two other cases allege that he attempted to negotiate more favourable coverage in two Israeli media outlets.Prime Minister Netanyahu has denied any wrongdoing.Netanyahu has underwent two significant medical procedures in the recent years. He received a pacemaker implant in 2023, and last December, surgeons removed his prostate following a diagnosis of urinary tract infection.
