The renewed remarks come despite the Congress high command’s clear direction to state leaders not to comment publicly on the issue of leadership

Just two days after asserting that his father, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, would complete the full five-year term in office, Yathindra has repeated his stance, once again pushing the leadership debate to the forefront.

Speaking in Belagavi on Thursday, the chief minister’s son and MLC reiterated: “There is no tussle for the chief minister’s post, I’ve already told you. Now, everything is clear. The high command has clearly said that as of now, there will be no change in leadership. No confusion, no change as of now.”

The renewed remarks come despite the Congress high command’s clear direction to state leaders not to comment publicly on the issue of leadership.

Siddaramaiah, meanwhile, repeated that the decision of the Congress high command would be the ultimate and binding one for the party.

Responding to Yathindra’s statement, deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar said, “The chief minister will reply to him,” sidestepping further controversy as the debate over leadership continues to simmer within the Congress.

Senior Congress MLA RV Deshpande also weighed in on the matter, urging restraint. He said there should not be unnecessary discussions and that there was no confusion within the party. “Everyone should try to speak as little as possible. The high command decides everything. I will not comment on Yathindra’s statement. I will not speak about issuing any notice to Yathindra,” he said.

Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan echoed the sentiment, saying that while individuals may have their views, only the leadership’s decision holds weight. “They have expressed their opinion. My stand is always the same—high command. Whatever line the high command draws, we will not cross it,” he said. He added that discussing the chief minister’s position at this stage was unnecessary, stressing that any change, if at all, could only be decided by the Grand Old Party’s top brass.
