With the Tamil Nadu Assembly election just months away, political activity has intensified across the state.

On Sunday, Udhayanidhi Stalin indirectly criticised actor-politician and TVK chief Vijay, saying “there are parties formed without ideology”.

“There is a group in our State that is roaming around – they only make noise, no ambition or ideology, nothing,” he said. “They think politics is entertainment.”

He told members of the DMK youth wing that politics is about commitment and dedication. He said no one can achieve anything with a group that has no commitment. He added that the youth wing has the responsibility of defeating “old and new slaves”.

Vijay targets DMK

This came after Vijay on Friday told Congress, without naming it, to understand that the DMK was using the party only to win elections.

Addressing party functionaries in Salem, Vijay described his earlier announcement at his first political conference in Vikravandi as a “political bomb” that was creating ripples across alliances in Tamil Nadu. He was referring to his statement that TVK would share power with allies.

However, Vijay also announced that his party would contest the 2026 Assembly elections independently, saying people were with them.

‘Come out of Trisha’s house’

A fresh controversy broke out after Tamil Nadu BJP chief Nainar Nagendran made a personal remark about Vijay.

Responding to Vijay’s claim that TVK would be the DMK’s main challenger in the coming elections, Nagendran described him as inexperienced. He said someone “who cannot even climb onto a rooftop is dreaming of climbing to heaven”.

He also said Vijay should “come out of actor Trisha’s house” to gain experience.

When questioned later, Nagendran stood by his remarks, saying he had said it only once.

The comments led to outrage in the state, with DMK leaders accusing the BJP of disrespecting women.
