Shocking details of what exactly happened on the NYC subway train when a woman was set on fire surfaced as more and more videos of the incident emerged. Sebastian Zapeta, a 33-year-old illegal migrant from Guatemala was arrested and charged with murder but questions arise as to how the woman could not be saved when there are so many videos recorded live of the woman turning into ashes.
A New York Post report called out the chilling apathy of the people as people who witnessed the horror were busy filming it and commenting on it. “Too many people captured the subway snuff film and posted their footage, with one guy commentating like he’s watching a mind-bending immersive art display,” the report said.
‘Sorry to his family’
Before the victim was identified as a woman, the person filming one video said, “Sorry to his family, that’s a person right here.” From the background, a chorus of “oh s**t” could be heard.
Accused saw the victim burning down, NYPD staff passed by
Going by the several videos of the shocking incident, accused Sebastian Zapeta did not flee the scene. After setting the woman’s clothes and the blanket she had on fire which engulfed her in a moment, the accused waited at the station watching her burning down. And it was not at least eight hours after the incident that the accused was arrested.
Another video apparently showed an NYPD staff walking on the station as the woman was burning inside the train drawing criticism for the NYPD for its nonchalance over the incident. The NYPD has not issued any statement reacting to these viral videos whether it was indeed an NYPD staff etc.
Who is the victim? What is known about the victim?
While the accused was arrested and apparently has no memory of the horrific murder he allegedly committed, little is known about the female victim. The victim appeared to have mobility issues as indicated by a walker found at the scene and was dressed in multiple layers which aided the fire spread fast.
Social media users claimed that the woman is Amelia Carter, a 29-year-old White woman, a PhD scholar. But the claim is false. The NYPD said the woman appeared to be homeless and she did not react to the fire until she was fully engulfed in flames.
