Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday held a meeting at the BJP office in Salt Lake in Kolkata to take stock of the party’s organisational preparedness for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections in 2026.

The meeting was held for more than two hours, where he was briefed by leaders on the preparations for next year’s elections.

According to sources, Shah instructed the party workers to work on every front — campaigns, protests, and programmes — and stated that there must be “tight and aggressive mobilisation”.

He further instructed the party leaders to sharpen their pitch so that the Trinamool Congress does not get any breathing space. Additionally, in a strong message, the Union Home Minister said, “There should be only one goal — Victory.”

Amit Shah’s message to the state leadership clearly mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that winning in Bengal is crucial for the entire country. “Focus entirely on that objective. No loopholes should be left,” Shah was quoted by the sources.

The Union minister further sought reports on public outreach and street meetings—how much response they are getting and how many people are attending. He has asked the party leadership to provide these details.

Shah has also sought an update from the state party president on the condition of the organisation, according to BJP sources. State leaders raised complaints with Shah regarding the law and order situation.

Amit Shah’s Schedule

Shah on Tuesday is expected to hold a press conference, followed by back-to-back closed-door meetings with BJP’s public representatives from the state in Parliament, Assembly and civic bodies and also with the top brass of Bengal RSS.

He may also chair several core committee meetings during his stay.

On Wednesday, Shah is scheduled to visit Thanthania Kali Bari Temple in central Kolkata. He is also scheduled to address a party workers’ meeting at an auditorium in east Kolkata tomorrow.

The Home Minister is likely to visit the house of a Bengali icon in the city or its nearby areas before leaving; however, this programme has not yet been finalised.
