An Indian mountaineer from Kerala, Shaikh Hasan Khan, has reportedly become stranded with his team on Denali Mountain in North America and sent an SOS message via satellite phone, seeking urgent rescue after facing difficulties during the expedition.Khan, sent an SOS message saying he and his team are stranded in a severe storm at 17,000 feet on Camp 5 of Mount Denali, North America’s highest peak.“Hi this is shaikh. I am on an expedition to mount Denali, the highest peak of north America. We are stuck in a severe storm at 17,000 ft at camp 5,” his message read.“Less food and water to survive. I am here on a mission to hold a banner to congratulate our armed forces for operation sindoor. only God can help us,” it added.Earlier on Wednesday, BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar posted on X that he had notified External affairs minister S Jaishankar about the situation and requested assistance.Pathanamthitta MP Anto Antony has also written to Jaishankar requesting urgent help for Khan,, saying, “Shaikh Hasan Khan, famous mountaineer from Kerala reportedly trapped on Mount Denali in America. He was on a mission to hoist the flag to congratulate the Indian Army for Operation Sindoor when he was trapped due to severe storm.”“Khan belongs to my parliamentary constituency Pathanamthitta. I request you to kindly give urgent direction to our mission in US to intervene in this matter and do all the possible assistance to help Khan,” Antony’s letter added.Khan, an avid mountaineer and assistant section officer in Kerala’s finance department, had taken a month-long leave for the expedition. He has previously scaled several peaks around the world, including Mount Everest in 2022.
