Prime Minister Narendra Modi met NDA Members of Parliament of Karnataka on Wednesday, and urged them to intensify their engagement with people on the ground and strengthen communication about the Centre’s welfare programmes, especially in a state where the BJP is currently in Opposition.
In the meeting, held at Prime Minister’s Office in the national capital, PM Modi individually asked each MP about the work underway in their constituencies and the core priorities they were focusing on.
Stressing the importance of grassroots connect, the Prime Minister said MPs must stay closely linked with people and “work actively on public issues.”
Modi also advised MPs to significantly boost their presence on social media, calling it an “effective tool of communication” to highlight both constituency initiatives and the impact of Central government schemes.
Meanwhile, the MPs apprised the Prime Minister of the current political situation in the state and the functioning of the party organisation. PM Modi reportedly underscored the need for an exhaustive outreach drive to inform people across all sections of society about the benefits of Central schemes.
Several Union ministers from Karnataka and key party leaders were present at the meeting, including Cabinet ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Pralhad Joshi, Ministers of State Shobha Karandlaje and V Somanna, and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
The meeting came at a politically sensitive time for Karnataka, where the ruling Congress government continues to be marred by an internal power tussle between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
PM Modi has held several region-wise meetings with party MPs during the ongoing Parliament session. Over the past two weeks, he has met MPs from Assam, West Bengal, and Maharashtra, all part of a broader exercise to strengthen political strategy and organisational readiness ahead of key elections.
