Mr Dinesh Sharma, senior journalist and convener of Matri Shree Media Awards, passed away on August 13. He had been unwell for a long time and breathed his last while undergoing treatment. His demise has cast a deep shadow of grief over the world of journalism.
Dinesh Sharma (75) had been active in the field of journalism for over four decades in Delhi. During his tenure at Punjab Kesari, he brought social issues to the forefront through fearless and unbiased reporting. His pen was always in the service of truth, and he was widely respected for his commitment to public interest. Through Matri Shree Media Awards, he made significant contributions to many social and cultural campaigns.
His mortal remains were cremated at Nigambodh Ghat in Delhi, where family members, friends, fellow journalists, and social workers bid him a tearful farewell. On this occasion, senior journalists and Punjab Kesari director Kiran Chopra said that the passing of Dinesh Sharma is an irreparable loss to the media world, one that cannot be compensated.
During the Emergency (1975), he courageously pursued journalism and was even jailed. He was also the convener of the Matr Shri Media Awards Committee, which since 1975 has been honoring 25 outstanding journalists every year. Prominent leaders like L.K. Advani, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Sahib Singh Verma, Madan Lal Khurana, Rajnath Singh, Dr Harsh Vardhan, VK Malhotra, Vijay Goel, Manoj Tiwari, Ajay Maken, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Shahnawaz Hussain, and especially Punjab Kesari’s Ashwini Kumar, regularly participated in this platform to encourage him.
His slogan was:
“A pen that never became a servant of power, never thirsted for government rewards,
It will always awaken self-respect, and continue to unmask traitors.”
Heartfelt tributes to Dinesh Sharma Ji.
