Putin strikes after warning Trump: Russia drone strikes kill 5 in Ukraine's Pryluky; injure 17 in Kharkiv

An overnight Russian drone attack on the northern Ukrainian city of Pryluky killed five people, including a one-year-old child, and wounded six others, regional governor Viacheslav Chaus said on Thursday. The Ukranian minister said that the drones struck the residential areas of Pryluky early Thursday morning, causing severe damage to buildings. He further said that the wounded were being treated at a hospital.Just hours after the Pryluky attack, another Russian drone strike hit the eastern city of Kharkiv. Regional governor Oleh Syniehubov said that at least 17 people were wounded in the attack, including children, a pregnant woman, and a 93-year-old woman. The drones targeted two apartment buildings in Kharkiv’s Slobidskyi district at around 1:05 am, local time. Several private vehicles caught fire as a result.“By launching attacks while people sleep in their homes, the enemy once again confirms its tactic of insidious terror,” Syniehubov wrote on Telegram. The attack comes after Russian president Vladmir Putil told US president Trump over the phone he would avenge the weekend drone attack on Russian military field.

Russia’s military has accused Ukraine of damaging several aircraft in an overnight drone strike on its territory. Kyiv has so far neither confirmed nor denied the allegation. Russia’s defence ministry in a statement confirmed the attacks, which spanned five airfields: Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Ryazan and Amur. Several aircraft caught fire in the Murmansk and Irkutsk regions – 4,000 km from Ukraine – but the other attacks were repelled, the ministry said in a statement, adding that there were no casualties.Soon after, Ukrainian and Russian delegations met in Istanbul for a second round of peace talks within just over two weeks. However, Russia declined to agree to an unconditional ceasefire.
