Mission Sudarshan Chakra: Army To Procure AK-630 Air Defence Guns; To Be Deployed Along Pak Border
The Indian Army plans to acquire six AK-630 air defence gun systems from AWEIL as part of Mission Sudarshan Chakra, announced by PM Modi. This 30mm multi-barrel system targets threats like UAVs, rockets, artillery, and mortars near the international border and Line of Control. Mounted on trailers and towed by high-mobility vehicles, the AK-630 has a 4 km range and a firing rate of 3,000 rounds per minute, with advanced Electro-Optical Fire Control. After successful trials in May, the system is set to strengthen India’s air defence following recent cross-border attacks. Mission Sudarshan Chakra aims to build an indigenous, multi-layered security shield by 2035, combining surveillance, cyber security, and air defence to protect key installations, while promoting self-reliance in defence technology under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
