Tollywood actor Srikanth Iyengar has come under fire after a video clip showing him making an offensive remark against Mahatama Gandhi went viral.

The footage, which spread rapidly across social media, also carried a translated excerpt in which Iyengar allegedly used highly offensive language to describe Gandhi. The remarks, described by many as “deeply indecent,” have drawn sharp criticism from across political and social circles.

Iyengar is further heard making remarks in apparent praise of Nathuram Godse, Gandhi’s assassin, comparing him to “an antibiotic that removed a parasite.” The comparison has been widely condemned as inflammatory and disrespectful.

How Political Leaders Reacted?

Political leaders, civil rights groups, and Gandhi followers have strongly denounced the actor’s statements. Many have accused him of attempting to malign the legacy of one of India’s most revered figures.

In Telangana, Congress MLC Balmur Venkat lodged a complaint with the Hyderabad Cyber Crime unit, demanding that authorities take swift legal action. Venkat called the actor’s comments “deeply offensive” and urged the police to register a criminal case.

He also appealed to the film industry and professional associations to take a firm stand against such behaviour. “Those who insult the Father of the Nation should not be allowed to represent the industry,” he said, urging bodies to consider suspending Iyengar from future projects if he refused to issue an apology.

Venkat stressed that filmmakers and artists hold a public responsibility to uphold respect for national leaders and that silence on such matters sets a dangerous precedent.

As of now, Srikanth Iyengar has not issued any public statement or clarification regarding the incident.
