An Indian resident has died in Jeddah after being shot during a financial dispute over the purchase of illicit substances, Saudi authorities have confirmed. Two Ethiopian nationals were implicated in the incident, and investigations indicate that both were involved in trafficking prohibited drugs and contraband. The Jeddah Governorate Police reported that the confrontation began as a disagreement over money during an illegal transaction in a mountainous area. One of the Ethiopian suspects opened fire, critically wounding the Indian man. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he received medical attention, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Both suspects were apprehended for violating Saudi border security regulations and have been referred to the Public Prosecution. Authorities have stressed that standard legal procedures are being followed, reflecting the Kingdom’s strict enforcement of its laws against border violations and illicit trafficking.Further details regarding the incident have not been disclosed. The Indian embassy in Saudi Arabia has not issued any statement concerning the death. Investigations have revealed that the two Ethiopian nationals were engaged in broader trafficking operations beyond the transaction that resulted in the fatal shooting, underscoring the wider context of illicit activity in the region.
