DHAKA: Former police IG Chowdhury Abdullah al-Mamun, who was being tried in “crimes against humanity” cases along with ex-PM Sheikh Hasina and recently became a state witness, will be pardoned as he has confessed to the crimes and agreed to disclose the truth, according to the Bangladesh International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).Former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal is also an accused. Hasina and Kamal are being tried in absentia for alleged atrocities, including mass killing, murder and torture, perpetrated by them to quell massive protests against her government last year. The order in Mamun’s case was made public Saturday, days after ICT formally framed charges against the trio. The tribunal said Mamun’s pardon is contingent upon full and truthful disclosure of all details related to the alleged crimes.
