Ship attacked with gunfire, rocket-propelled grenades in Red Sea off Yemen: UK maritime agency

A ship came under attack on Sunday in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen by armed men who fired guns and launched rocket-propelled grenades, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center. The UKMTO, which operates under the British military, said the vessel’s armed security team returned fire. The agency added that the “situation is ongoing” and that authorities are investigating the incident. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. The Red Sea region has seen previous maritime threats, including attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels and piracy by African groups. While the Houthis have launched attacks in the area in the past amid the Israel-Hamas conflict, a ceasefire has largely held in recent weeks.
