Escalating its attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his foreign trips, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday raised questions and asked in Lok Sabha about his “compulsion” to often embark on “secret travels” abroad.
Alleging that the itinerary of Rahul Gandhi’s “official or unofficial” trips is not shared when he goes abroad, BJP national spokesperson Tuhin Sinha questioned the Congress leader about what he is “hiding” from the country.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, Sinha called Rahul Gandhi “leader of paryatan” (leader of tourism) and “leader of partying”, taking a jibe at the LoP ahead of his 6-day visit to Germany next week.
The BJP leader further attacked the Leader of the Opposition for the way he embarks on foreign visits by skipping “important occasions” in the country.
INDIA Bloc Allies Join BJP
In a rare incident, the INDIA Bloc allies, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) joined the BJP in attacking Rahul Gandhi.
Launching jibe at Rahul Gandhi, AAP questioned Rahul’s absence from the Parliamentary session and questioned, “Is this casual absenteeism born of enlightenment?”
AAP leader Priyanka Kakkar took to X and wrote, “No one told the LoP that he could use Google Meet for a meeting with his NRI Congress prabharis in Germany at this time instead of skipping the winter session altogether? Is this casual absenteeism born of enlightenment, or a strategy to keep India trapped in a BJP vs Congress narrative?”
Adding to this, even SP questioned Rahul Gandhi’s absence from Winter Session. “The Parliament is conducting its session and Rahul ji is concerned about foreign visits. Everyone is aware of how much he is concerned about the country’s politics.”
Rahul Gandhi To Visit Germany
Rahul Gandhi will visit Germany from December 15 to 20, during which he will engage with the Indian diaspora and meet German ministers, according to the Indian Overseas Congress.
Rahul’s visit to Germany comes at a time when Parliament’s Winter Session is underway, during which 13 important bills are listed for consideration and passage.
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday hit back at the BJP for its criticism of Rahul Gandhi over his visit to Germany next week, asking why they are raising questions on the LoP when Prime Minister Narendra Modi spends “almost half of his working time outside the country”.
