'Stuff of nightmares': Minnesota murders accused Vance Boelter 'stalked victims like prey'; chilling details emerge
Vance Luther Boelter visited two other houses the same night he allegedly killed Melissa Hortman and her husband.

57-year-old Vance Luther Boelter, who was arrested for killing a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband and wounding another lawmaker and his wife, used to stalk his victims like prey and fired at them in cold blood, acting US attorney for the District of Minnesota Joseph Thomson said revealing chilling details about the accused murderer. Boelter killed Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark Hortman and then fired at Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette, injuring them gravely.

Boelter surveilled victims, took note about them

The attorney revealed that Boelter surveilled his victims’ homes and took notes. About Melissa Hortman, Boelter wrote: ‘married Marj 2 children 11th term”. Another note regarding Hortman said: “Big house off golf course 2 ways in to watch from one spot.”

From Hoffmans to Hortmans: Boelter had many targets that night, visited two more houses

Boelter first visited John Hoffman’s house dressed up as a cop, with a mask on his face. Boelter told there that there was a shooting reported in the house and asked them if they had weapons. The Hoffmans understood that he was not a real cop and them Boelter forced his way into the house. When resisted, he opened fire and left the place when their daughter already called 911. Then Boelter went to another state representative’s house who was not home and so Boelter left that scene.Meanwhile, police was alerted and an officer was sent to a New Hope lawmaker’s house. The offer saw Boelter’s ‘Police car’ and thought he was another officer dispatched to the scene. The police officer tried to speak with Boelter but he did not respond and kept staring ahead. As the officer waited for other law enforcement, Boelter left that place and reached Melissa Hortman’s house. When two Brooklyn Park officers arrived at Hortman’s place, they saw Boelter’s SUV. When Boelter saw them, he started firing and rished into the house. Police fired on Boelter but he escaped through the back of the house. The target list recovered from the suspect’s car outside the Hortmans’ house had a list of dozens of Minnesota Democrats, including Hoffman, Hortman, Gov. Tim Walz, US Rep. Ilhan Omar and U.S. Sen. Tina Smith
