'Tactical pause': Israel announces military activity halt for aid in Gaza; suspends combat in 3 areas

The Israel Defence Forces announced on Sunday the implementation of daily “tactical pause” in military operations across three Gaza regions, addressing escalating humanitarian concerns. The forces confirmed suspension of activities in Muwasi, Deir al-Balah and Gaza City between 10 am and 8 pm local time, commencing Sunday until further notice. Despite claims of non-operation in these areas, recent weeks witnessed combat activities and aerial strikes. The military authorities additionally announced plans to establish protected corridors to facilitate aid organisations in delivering essential supplies to Gaza’s population. The decision for partial combat suspension follows prolonged warnings from specialists regarding impending famine due to Israeli aid restrictions. Recent weeks witnessed hundreds of Palestinian casualties near food distribution points, leading to increased international censure, including from close allies. The military confirmed on Saturday its decision to reinstate aid airdrops into crisis-stricken Gaza to address rising food insecurity. The authorities emphasised that these humanitarian measures would continue alongside their ongoing military campaign against Hamas and other militant organisations in Gaza.
