Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Slams BRS Chief Over Phone-Tapping
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Monday slammed Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Chief K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) who was questioned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the phone-tapping case. Reacting to the development, Reddy said, “Stepping away from public life and accepting people’s rejection with dignity would at least help preserve one’s respect.”
KCR was questioned by SIT on Sunday at his Hyderabad residence. Earlier, several BRS leaders, including KCR’s son, K. T. Rama Rao, and nephew, T. Harish Rao, were also questioned in the case.
C.M. Revanth Reddy questioned KCR and asked, “What kind of democracy and movement ethics such behaviour reflects, and how one can claim the stature of Jathi Pitha while doing so?”
He also highlighted that the police neither broke KCR’s doors nor dragged him away, “unlike what was done to Prof. Kodandaram, but merely served notices and summoned him for questioning.”
“Mahatma Gandhi, the real Father of the Nation, relinquished power and ultimately sacrificed his life, whereas leaders who accumulated positions and thousands of crores in assets cannot project themselves as national patriarchs,” Reddy added.
In response to the questioning, the BRS called for statewide protests, with party workers donning black badges as a mark of dissent against the Telangana government. Demonstrations were staged across the state, highlighting the party’s opposition to questioning its chief in the alleged phone-tapping case.
Police also detained some workers who staged a protest wearing black badges against the Telangana government.
The phone-tapping case came forth after former D.C.P. P. Radhakrishna Rao alleged that telephones of media personalities, retired cops, and politicians were monitored during the BRS government’s tenure to track KCR’s political rivals.
