At least nine people were killed in a strong explosion at a fireworks factory in central Thailand’s Suphan Buri province on Wednesday. The blast occurred around 11:00 am (0400 GMT) in Mueang district, north of Bangkok. Images shared by a rescue group showed the factory building reduced to rubble, completely charred by the explosion. Police confirmed that nine people had died, revising the earlier death toll of four. Two others were injured who are currently undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital, reported AFP “We are trying to identify the cause of the blast,” told a local police official to AFP. Factory fires are frequent in Thailand due to weak enforcement of safety regulations.A similar explosion occurred at another fireworks factory in January 2024, in the same province, which claimed at least 23 lives.
