The convoy of West Bengal Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, was allegedly attacked on Tuesday during a protest in Cooch Behar district. The BJP has claimed that the attackers were Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters.

Adhikari had travelled to Cooch Behar in north Bengal to lead a BJP protest outside the Superintendent of Police’s office. As his convoy passed through the Khagrabari area around 12:35 PM, a group of protesters reportedly gathered, waving TMC party flags and black flags.

According to BJP leaders, the crowd chanted “go back” slogans and hurled shoes at the convoy.

Visuals shared on social media showed the mob hitting vehicles with flags and throwing footwear. A police escort car had its front windshield shattered, and at least one other vehicle was also damaged.

Speaking to News18, West Bengal BJP President Samik Bhattacharya said, “We will launch protests across the state, from North Bengal to South Bengal.” He also stated that he would brief BJP national president JP Nadda on the matter.

Criticising the TMC, Bhattacharya alleged, “They are bringing Bangladeshi infiltrators into the state. These attacks are happening everywhere.”

The BJP described the incident as a “pre-planned attempt to intimidate the Leader of the Opposition,” accusing the ruling party of orchestrating the violence.

The TMC has strongly denied the allegations, calling the incident a “well-scripted drama” by the BJP. It claimed the incident stemmed from internal rifts within the BJP, not its own party workers.

While tensions flared at the site, authorities have not yet confirmed whether anyone was injured.
