The Trinamool Congress (TMC) will use influential individuals to connect with the wider public as part of its election outreach, party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee announced during a virtual meeting with senior leaders on Thursday. According to sources, Banerjee will begin his election campaign on January 2, starting in South 24 Parganas, and plans to travel across West Bengal.

Addressing nearly 1,500 party representatives—including MPs, MLAs, mayors, councillors, panchayat leaders, and district office-bearers—Banerjee said the party would formally launch its campaign on January 1, coinciding with the AITC’s foundation day.

He said the party’s development narrative has been compiled into a panchali and will be rolled out in two phases through programmes titled Banglar Samarthoner Sanjog and Banglar Samarthoner Songlap.

Under Banglar Samarthoner Sanjog, teams comprising MLAs, Panchayat Samiti chairpersons, municipal chairpersons and other key block-level leaders will be formed. Each team will have five to ten members. The programme will begin on January 1.

According to party sources, around 1,800 influencers have been identified across the state. Ministers and Members of Parliament will personally meet about 200 influencers, while the remaining 1,600 will be engaged by MLAs and district presidents. A total of 38 teams, including MPs, ministers, and MLAs, have been constituted for this exercise, which is expected to be completed within 15 to 30 days.

Each of the 1,800 influencers will receive a kit containing Unnayaner Panchali (a narrative of development), Banglar Gaurabojjwal 15 Bochor (15 glorious years of Bengal), an uttariya (ceremonial stole), a letter written by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, a memento, and a 15-year report card highlighting the government’s work.

Party insiders feel that the TMC aims to begin the year with an aggressive election drive. Banerjee has said in the meeting, “We are the only party in the country, and that too in power, which has released and will continue to release its report card on work done. No other party does this. In 2021, we did it through the Bongo Dhwani Yatra; this time it will be through Unnoyoner Panchali,” he said, according to sources present at the meeting.

He also announced that district coordinators would be appointed to act as the party’s “eyes and ears,” with the list to be released shortly. Questioning the BJP’s record, Banerjee reportedly said the party had not presented a report card in 2024 and accused it of blocking Rs 2 lakh crore in central funds meant for West Bengal.

Sources told News18 that Banerjee stressed the importance of polite conduct while engaging with people. “There should be no arrogance while speaking to people. A person’s conduct reflects their character. Your behaviour should allow people to see Mamata Banerjee’s struggle reflected in you,” he said.

Banerjee is scheduled to hold a meeting with Booth Level Agents (BLAs) on December 28, where he will issue final instructions related to the SIR process. As a special gesture, he will also send letters acknowledging the efforts of BLA-2s and booth presidents.

He further announced the party’s slogan for the 2026 assembly elections: “Manbe Na Haar, Abar Trinamool Sarkar (Won’t Concede Defeat, Trinamool Rule Will Repeat).”
