Amid the ongoing power tussle in Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday confirmed that he had invited Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for breakfast on December 2, stressing that the two leaders would “continue to work together as a team.”
The meeting on Tuesday will be the second breakfast interaction between the two Congress leaders, as earlier the Chief Minister had hosted Shivakumar at his residence on November 29.
“I have invited the Hon’ble CM for breakfast tomorrow to discuss and strengthen our collective efforts to deliver on our promises to Karnataka,” DK Shivakumar said.
Shivakumar, the state Congress chief and a key contender for the Chief Minister’s post, had said last Saturday, after his breakfast meeting at the CM’s residence, that he and Siddaramaiah are “together” and will abide by the directives of the party high command.
Will Siddaramaiah Accept Invite?
Earlier today, CM Siddaramaiah said that he still has not received a call from Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar inviting him for breakfast at his residence, adding that he will go whenever he is invited.
“If I am invited to breakfast by Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar, I am ready to go. He had said that day of the breakfast meeting (Nov 30) that he would invite me. He told me that I should come to his residence for breakfast on Tuesday. But until now, I have not received any call. If he invites us, I will go,” Siddaramaiah told reporters.
BJP Takes Jibe
Amid the ongoing politics in Karnataka’s ruling party, BJP took a sharp jibe, saying that people are enjoying “free entertainement” without paying any tax.
“(It is) free entertainment without paying any tax. The much-awaited winter session will begin in another seven days… People are looking forward to that session to take up very serious issues, and the government is still embroiled in its own conflict and confusion,” said BJP MLA S Suresh Kumar.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao sought to downplay speculation on Monday, saying the two leaders would continue to meet frequently.
“We may have breakfast, lunch and even dinner meetings. They will discuss all issues in these interactions. Shivakumar mentioned that the Chief Minister invited him for breakfast, and naturally, he said he would return the gesture,” he said.
Gundu Rao insisted there were no internal rifts, adding that the party high command would take all key decisions.
“There is no confusion within the party. The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister are united and will move forward together. Conversations about leadership changes are unnecessary and not in the interest of the party or the government,” he said.
He also criticised the narrative of instability, claiming the media had been projecting turmoil for months.
“For two and a half years, the media has suggested there is confusion within the government. But there has been none. The CM and Deputy CM are working in coordination, and the crisis some expected in November never materialised. We have addressed any misunderstandings and are moving ahead,” he added.
