It looks like Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has his INDIA bloc colleagues to thank after he suffered what he called “a bit of a tumble” outside Parliament on Wednesday.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Congress MP Imran Masood came to the rescue when Tharoor missed a step while coming down the stairs of the Parliament building.
In a video by news agency IANS, Yadav and others can be seen helping Tharoor – wearing a green kurta, patterned Nehru jacket, and shades – after he fell down. He is then put to rights, and is seen walking away, though with some difficulty.
The 69-year-old Congress MP from Kerala later thanked Yadav and Masood, “who came to help as I hobbled off”. Pending a proper X-Ray, however, he said he does not feel that he has had a fracture but is only left with a “few sore points including a bruised ego”.
“Yes thanks to Akhilesh Yadav and Imran Masood and others who came to help as I hobbled off,” Tharoor wrote on X, replying to a post that shared the video saying: “Thank you Akhilesh Yadav ji! Your prompt, helpful hand, and concern for Dr Shashi Tharoor are heartwarming!”

Yes thanks to @yadavakhilesh, @Imranmasood_Inc and others who came to help as I hobbled off. Took a bit of a tumble by missing a step when coming down the Parliament stairs. A bit of pain still, but I don’t think I’ve broken anything, just twisted the ankle and bruised some… https://t.co/gDhMMV8cu9— Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) February 4, 2026
In the same post, Tharoor wrote: “Took a bit of a tumble by missing a step when coming down the Parliament stairs. A bit of pain still, but I don’t think I’ve broken anything, just twisted the ankle and bruised some knuckles. Should be okay in a couple of days, I hope. Did a whole list of meetings from 4 to 7:30pm (including two Ambassadors) at my home office with my foot resting on a stool. Will get an x-ray done tomorrow to confirm there’s no fracture. Just a few sore points including a bruised ego!”
After a period of frostiness between Tharoor and the Congress, there seems to be a thaw in their relationship with the Kerala assembly election inching closer. He had met opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge only last week.
And what with the uproar in the Lok Sabha, caused by Gandhi’s controversial use of an unpublished memoir by former army chief General MM Naravane, the warmth in their ties seems more pronounced after Tharoor was present at a meeting with Kharge, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi, general secretary KC Venugopal, deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi in attendance.
