US President-elect Donald Trump slammed the Biden administration for reportedly putting the southern border wall materials for auction and said that getting new ones is “crazy and must be stopped.”
Taking to his account on Truth Social, Trump said that selling the wall would cost a fortune and time to the US.
“Joe Biden keeps talking about a smooth transition and unified government, and yet he races to sell desperately needed border wall for pennies on the dollar. It will cost the U.S. a fortune, and time, to get the exact same wall to replace what has been sold, and the new wall will cost triple the price. It is CRAZY, and must be stopped,” Trump said.
According to the reports, the current administration is quietly auctioning unused southern border wall materials during its final weeks, an action some legislators view as potentially hindering the incoming president’s border security objectives.
A US Customs agent’s footage, obtained near Tucson, Arizona, shows flatbed trucks removing dismantled wall sections from a significant illegal crossing area. The agent, speaking anonymously, indicates approximately half a mile of components are being removed daily from “Nogales, Tucson, and Three Points.”
The materials are being transported to Pinal Airpark in Marana, Arizona, for sale through GovPlanet, a military surplus auction platform, with starting bids at $5. Auctions for “Steel Bollard Wall Sections w/Grout” occurred this month, with another scheduled for December 18, New York Post reported.
These components remained unused after the current administration halted wall construction and reversed previous immigration policies in 2021, leading to increased illegal border crossings. Republican legislators note that up to £300 million worth of taxpayer-funded materials have deteriorated since then.
Representative Eli Crane (R-Ariz.) stated, “The Biden Administration is well aware they shouldn’t have reversed the construction of the border wall. If it’s true, they’re purposefully hamstringing an incoming president, it wouldn’t be shocking. Why would they want to see President Trump succeed with policies they aggressively sabotaged.”
The previous administration invested $15 billion to construct approximately 450 miles of barriers, with 250 additional miles in progress when the term ended. The anonymous border agent suggests this disposal of materials could necessitate renewed funding debates when construction resumes.
