Starting October 13, 2025, students across the UAE will enjoy a well-deserved 9-day mid-term break, courtesy of the Ministry of Education’s newly introduced academic calendar. This extended pause offers families a perfect opportunity to explore local attractions, embark on short getaways, or simply unwind at home.

UAE Ministry of Education announces 9-day mid-term break: Dates and details

  • October 13–19, 2025
  • February 11–15, 2026
  • May 25–31, 2026

The first mid-term break, spanning October 13 to October 19, 2025, provides students with an early respite during the longest academic term. This adjustment aims to alleviate academic pressure and offer families more flexibility for planning holidays and activities. Private schools following curricula other than the Ministry’s are encouraged to align their mid-term breaks within the specified months, ensuring consistency across the educational landscape.

Why the extended break matters

The 9-day mid-term break is part of the UAE’s broader educational reforms aimed at reducing academic pressure and promoting student well-being. By introducing regular breaks throughout the academic year, the Ministry of Education seeks to create a balanced learning environment that supports both academic achievement and mental health.

UAE: How to make the most of your mid-term break

  • Dubai Miracle Garden: Reopened for the 2025 season, Dubai Miracle Garden is a must-visit. Spanning 72,000 square meters, it boasts over 150 million blooming flowers arranged in stunning displays. Highlights include flower-covered castles, heart-shaped pathways, and floral versions of famous landmarks. The garden operates with eco-friendly practices, using recycled water and energy-efficient irrigation systems.
  • Expo City Dubai – ‘UAE Loves Iraq 2025’ Event: Experience Iraqi culture firsthand at the ‘UAE Loves Iraq 2025’ event held at Expo City Dubai. Enjoy traditional music, dance, art, workshops, and cuisine. The festival promotes stronger ties between the UAE and Iraq and offers a vibrant cultural experience for attendees.
  • Jebel Jais, Ras Al Khaimah: For adventure seekers, Jebel Jais offers thrilling experiences like the world’s longest zipline. The mountain’s cooler temperatures and scenic views make it a perfect day trip destination.
  • Sharjah’s Cultural Heritage: Sharjah, recognized as UNESCO’s Cultural Capital of the Arab World, offers a rich tapestry of museums, art galleries, and traditional markets. Visit the Sharjah Art Foundation and the Rain Room for immersive art experiences.

Activities for kids and families

Keep the young ones engaged with these activities:

  • Aventura Parks: Located in Mushrif Park, Aventura offers adventure camps like Forest Rangers and Forest Lab, combining outdoor fun with learning. Activities include ziplining, science experiments, and arts and crafts.
  • Dubai Dolphinarium: Watch captivating dolphin and seal shows, providing entertainment and education about marine life.
  • Al-Ghuraifa Village: For a touch of history, visit this abandoned desert village near Dubai. Explore its unique architecture and learn about the UAE’s past.

As the UAE gears up for this 9-day mid-term break, students and families have the perfect chance to recharge, explore, and create lasting memories. Whether it’s discovering local cultural gems, embarking on short getaways, or simply enjoying quality time at home, the break is designed to balance learning with leisure. Planning ahead and making the most of these nine days can turn a simple pause from school into a truly memorable experience for everyone.
