UAE expresses solidarity with India, offers condolences to flood victims
The UAE has expressed heartfelt condolences and solidarity with India following deadly flash floods on the Machail Mata Yatra route in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district. The floods claimed at least 60 lives—mostly pilgrims, injured over 100, and left hundreds missing. Rescue and relief efforts continue amid widespread damage, while the UAE extends support and wishes a speedy recovery for the victims.

In the wake of a devastating natural disaster in Jammu and Kashmir, the United Arab Emirates has extended its condolences and offered support to the Indian government and its people. Flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall claimed the lives of at least 60 people—mostly pilgrims, injured over 100, and left hundreds missing. The UAE’s message of solidarity comes as rescue and relief efforts continue in the severely affected region.

Floods strike pilgrimage route in Jammu & Kashmir

On Thursday afternoon, flash floods swept through Chasoti village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, severely impacting the Machail Mata Yatra pilgrimage route. According to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, at least 60 people—predominantly pilgrims, lost their lives in the sudden flooding. More than 100 others sustained injuries, and several hundred are still reported missing. The disaster unfolded rapidly following intense and sustained rainfall in the region. The Machail Mata Yatra is an annual religious pilgrimage that draws thousands of devotees each year. This year, however, torrential weather turned the sacred route into a zone of catastrophe, with rising waters catching many off guard.Emergency services and rescue teams were immediately deployed to the scene, with ongoing efforts focused on locating the missing and providing medical assistance to the injured. Local authorities have declared the area a disaster zone and are coordinating with national agencies for relief and rehabilitation.

UAE expresses solidarity and offers condolences

In response to the tragedy, the United Arab Emirates issued an official statement on 14th August 2025 through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), expressing deep condolences and solidarity with India. The UAE government conveyed its heartfelt sympathy to the families of the victims and extended support to the Indian government and its people during this time of crisis. The statement also included wishes for a swift and full recovery of those who were injured in the floods. The UAE’s expression of solidarity reflects the strong diplomatic and humanitarian ties between the two countries. As one of India’s key international partners, the UAE has often stood in support of India during major disasters and crises.

Ongoing efforts and regional impact

The flooding has caused extensive damage in the Kishtwar region, disrupting local infrastructure, roads, and communication networks. Rescue operations remain challenging due to continued rainfall and difficult terrain, but authorities are working round the clock to reach stranded individuals and restore essential services.Relief camps have been set up to provide shelter, food, and medical aid to survivors and displaced families. The state government is also conducting an assessment of property loss and infrastructure damage, with plans for compensation and long-term rehabilitation underway.Meanwhile, public appeals for support and donations have begun, with civil society and religious groups mobilizing resources to assist those affected.
