UAE lottery revises payouts: Dh30m and Dh5m prizes now split among winners

The UAE Lottery has overhauled its Lucky Day format. From December 6 the draw moves from fortnightly to every Saturday at 8:30pm (UAE time), the grand prize is reset to Dh30 million and the second prize is boosted to Dh5 million. Organisers say the change is meant to give players more frequent opportunities to win while keeping the game exciting.

What changed about prize splitting?

Under the new rules, both the Dh30m grand prize and the Dh5m second prize will be split equally if multiple winners match the required numbers. This is different from the previous regime where only the Dh100m jackpot had explicit sharing rules; now sharing applies to the top two tiers under the weekly system. Lower-tier prizes (Dh100,000, Dh1,000, Dh100 and the Lucky Chance payouts) remain in place with no announced change to their structure. This change is part of a broader revamp that has transformed the draw into a weekly event, taking place every Saturday at 8:30 PM UAE time. For those who miss the top prizes, the draw still offers guaranteed winning chances:

  • Lower Tiers: Fixed prices range from Dh100,000 (Third Prize) down to Dh100 (Fifth Prize).
  • Lucky Chance Raffle: Every ticket automatically enters a separate raffle where three guaranteed winners each walk away with Dh100,000 every Saturday.

How does the Dh5 million prize split?

The sharing principle is the most important new detail for Second Prize winners to grasp. The total prize fund of Dh5 million is fixed for the tier, regardless of how many tickets qualify.

  • Winning Requirement: To claim the Second Prize, a player must match all six numbers chosen from the ‘Days’ section (1-31), regardless of the number chosen from the ‘Months’ section (1-12).
  • Splitting Example: If two players match the six required numbers, each would receive Dh2.5 million. If five players qualify, each would walk away with Dh1 million.

The odds of winning this newly boosted prize are set at 1 in 803,216, making it a much more accessible high-value target than the Dh30 million jackpot, which has odds of 1 in 8,835,372.

How to play, ticket cost and the odds?

  • A single play still costs Dh50.
  • To win the jackpot you must match six “Days” numbers (1–31) plus one “Month” number (1–12), the same selection method as before.
  • The odds of hitting the top prize remain 1 in 8,835,372. That hasn’t changed despite the new frequency.
  • Each ticket generates a Lucky Chance ID (format: two uppercase letters + seven digits). That ID enters a separate raffle where three winners will now each receive Dh100,000 every Saturday (previously seven winners in the biweekly format). Lucky Chance winners are announced during the livestream and posted on the lottery website.

If you play: you’ll get more frequent draws and a better second prize, but the top prize is lower and may be shared if others also win. Expect similar odds for the jackpot, the main difference is frequency and prize distribution. The revamped Lucky Day draw signals a clear shift toward providing more frequent and substantial prize money, particularly for those who narrowly miss the jackpot. While the fivefold boost to the Dh5 million Second Prize is highly appealing, the new splitting rule introduces a layer of strategy: players must now weigh the excitement of winning a life-changing amount against the possibility of sharing the pot.
