US shooting: Teenager critical after being shot in head in Queens; probe under way

A 13-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being shot in the head outside a Dunkin’ in Queens on Monday, reports CBS news. The teenager was found with a gunshot wound in the parking lot of a mall on Linden Boulevard and Springfield in Cambria Heights at about 8.20 am. He was rushed to Northwell-Cohen Children’s Medical Centre in critical condition.Police said the area in front of the Dunkin’, situated between a pharmacy and a U-Haul outlet, was quickly closed off as a large number of officers responded to the shooting. Witnesses described the shock in the neighbourhood as students from nearby Andrew Jackson High School often gather in the area before and after classes. “I heard a pop, about 8-something in the morning, and then I looked and I see all the kids. I see some kids running down the block,” said Ronald Blain, who lives nearby.Others raised concerns about safety in the community. “I’ve been living in this neighbourhood, this community, for 20 years and the fact that my son is not safe walking to school or my children overall are not safe walking to school, is a problem,” said resident Xavier Ezell.Investigators are still trying to determine what sparked the violence or whether the boy was the intended target.
