US weather alert: Tornado warnings, severe storms, and record heat batter several states
US weather alert, Tornado warnings and severe storms

Severe weather continues to sweep across the United States, with tornado warnings, intense thunderstorms, and dangerous heat affecting multiple regions. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued alerts for states in the Midwest, Great Lakes, and the West, urging residents to take safety precautions.Tornado warnings are issued across several US states, including Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana, as powerful thunderstorms and gusty winds triggered power outages in affected areas. Some warnings lasted only a few hours, while others extended over days, prompting officials to urge residents to stay indoors. In California, the NWS has released a high wind warning from Thursday 5.00 pm through Sunday 2.00 am (local time) for the Mojave Desert Slopes. Winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are expected, with possible damage to trees and power lines. Travel disruptions, especially for large vehicles, are anticipated.Thousands of American Electric Power (AEP) customers lost power in parts of Franklin and Licking counties, including Columbus and Newark. The most severe threat remains over parts of Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.Meanwhile, extreme heat is building in the East, with temperatures in southern New England possibly reaching the mid-90s on Thursday. Relief is expected Friday as a cold front brings cooler air.In the West, dry and windy conditions are raising fire weather concerns, especially in Nevada, Utah, and parts of Colorado and Arizona. Extreme heat is also gripping the region, with temperatures expected to exceed 120°F in Death Valley and remain over 100°F across the Desert Southwest. Heat advisories and fire weather alerts remain in effect across multiple states.
