The Rajya Sabha elections are seen as important for the party, especially in a politically significant state like Maharashtra.

The BJP’s state core committee met in Mumbai late on Tuesday evening to discuss candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. The meeting was attended by 12 senior leaders, including chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and state party president Ravindra Chavan.

According to sources, the discussion focused on shortlisting names that will be sent to the party’s central leadership for the final decision. The talks lasted for several hours and were described as detailed and cautious.

Names of several senior leaders were discussed during the meeting, including Vinod Tawde, Ramdas Athawale, Raosaheb Danve, Pritam Munde, Vijaya Rahatkar and Bhagwat Karad. A few other names were also considered. Sources said the party is looking at experience, loyalty and regional representation while weighing its options.

Leaders present at the meeting are learnt to have shared their views openly. While no final decision was taken at the state level, a list of suggested names has reportedly been prepared. This list will now be sent to the BJP’s central leadership in Delhi. Chavan is expected to meet national president Nitin Nabin soon to discuss the recommendations. The final call will be taken by the central leadership after internal consultations.

Party insiders say the BJP wants to announce its candidates before February 28. With the deadline approaching, the leadership is keen to avoid confusion and ensure clarity within the party ranks. The Rajya Sabha elections are seen as important for the party, especially in a politically significant state like Maharashtra. The selections are also closely watched within party circles, as they reflect internal balance and future planning.

For now, the focus shifts to Delhi, where the final decision will be made. Until the official announcement comes, discussions are likely to continue behind the scenes. Party sources described the process as routine but important, with the party aiming to send experienced and dependable faces to the Upper House.
