BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress, alleging that those accused in the vandalism of the Farakka Block Development Officer (BDO) office were being rewarded instead of punished.

Referring to the recent incident, Malviya said the accused, who were charged with damaging government property and attempting to cause serious injury to officials on duty, were released on bail within a week. He alleged that rather than facing condemnation, they were publicly honoured.

He also shared a video where they can be seen walking wearing garlands.

The BJP leader claimed that under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, individuals who obstructed officials deputed by the Election Commission for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) work were being protected and encouraged.

“The accused, charged with ransacking government property and attempting grievous injury to government officials on duty, are out on bail in less than a week. And instead of condemnation, they are being garlanded. Let that sink in,” he wrote.

“Under Mamata Banerjee’s watch, those who violently obstruct officials deputed by the Election Commission for SIR work are not just being shielded, they are being openly incentivised,” he added.

Malviya argued that the episode sent a dangerous signal, suggesting that attacks on constitutional authorities in West Bengal come without consequences if the perpetrators are linked to the ruling party. He alleged that the rule of law was being openly undermined, while political patronage was extended to those accused of violence.

“This is not governance. This is a message. A message that attacking constitutional authorities carries no consequences in Bengal, only political patronage. A message that lawbreakers aligned with the ruling party enjoy immunity, while the rule of law is mocked in public,” said the BJP leader.

He further warned that West Bengal is being pushed towards administrative anarchy, where violence is celebrated, and the state machinery stands compromised.

The remarks come in the backdrop of the vandalism at the Farakka BDO office, where a Special Intensive Revision hearing had to be halted after a group allegedly forced its way into government offices, damaged property and disrupted official work. The incident took place in the presence of local political figures and sparked questions over the lack of immediate police action.
