US President Donald Trump attended the Sunday’s Daytona 500 with loud cheering from the crowd as he came out of a car with his granddaughter Carolina.
In a video going viral, as soon as Trump came out of the car, the crowd gave the loudest cheers to welcome him.
Reacting to the video, a user said, “This crowd isn’t as deafening as the millions who are watching from home, screaming and chanting and praising our beloved president!” While another one said, “Crowd Loves donald trump.”
This was his second appearance as president at NASCAR’s opening event. He characterised it as a unifying occasion that embodies a spirit which would drive “America’s Golden Age” under his leadership.
En route to Daytona Beach, Florida, Trump issued a presidential statement highlighting how the Daytona 500 unites diverse groups through their “shared passion for speed, adrenaline and the thrill of the race.”
“From the roar of the engines on the track to the echo of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ soaring through the stands, the Daytona 500 is a timeless tribute to the speed, strength and unyielding spirit that make America great,” Trump said. “That spirit is what will fuel America’s Golden Age, and if we harness it, the future is truly ours.”
This echoes his January 20 inaugural address, where he declared “the golden age of America begins right now.”
Air Force One circled the Daytona International Speedway before landing. Trump travelled from West Palm Beach airport accompanied by his son Eric, his wife, grandson Luke, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and his wife, Kathryn, according to the White House. Several Congress members joined the journey.
His convoy entered the speedway via the track itself. His vehicle subsequently led drivers for two ceremonial circuits before he addressed them via radio, encouraging safety and enjoyment.
“This is your favourite president. I’m a big fan. I am a really big fan of you people. How you do this I don’t know, but I just want you to be safe,” Trump said. “You’re talented people and you’re great people and great Americans. Have a good day, have a lot of fun and I’ll see you later.”
Trump previously attended in 2020 during his re-election campaign, serving as grand marshal and giving the command to start engines. That visit also featured an Air Force One flyover and track drive.
Sunday’s event began with full attendance but paused after eight laps due to heavy rainfall. The crowd, known for conservative leanings, displayed numerous red “MAGA” caps, matching Trump’s own attire as he watched from a suite.
As a sports enthusiast, Trump regularly plays golf and attends college football and UFC events.
The previous weekend marked a milestone as he became the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl.
