The Thackeray cousins have sparked speculation about a possible reconciliation with their recent statements indicating that they could ignore “trivial issues”

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday said that “whatever people of Maharashtra wish will happen,” amid ongoing speculation over a possible alliance between his party and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) led by his estranged cousin, Raj Thackeray.

Speaking to the media, the former Maharashtra Chief Minister said there was no confusion among the workers of either party.

“There is no confusion in our and our Shiv Sainiks’ hearts. There is no confusion in his (MNS) mind either. We will not give any message, we will give the news directly,” Uddhav said.

The statement comes as both Thackeray cousins have recently hinted at the possibility of setting aside past differences and working together, nearly two decades after parting ways. Uddhav’s latest remarks have further fuelled speculation of a political rapprochement.

While Raj Thackeray has previously said that coming together in the interest of the Marathi manoos (Marathi-speaking people) wouldn’t be difficult, Uddhav has stated he is willing to overlook “trivial fights,” provided those working against Maharashtra’s interests are not entertained.

Adding to the buzz, MNS leader Amit Thackeray recently said that alliances don’t materialise through media statements and suggested that Uddhav and Raj should speak directly if there is any genuine interest in joining forces.

Earlier, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray also commented on the matter, saying, “If anyone wants to come together to protect the interests of Maharashtra, we will take them along.”

Notably, during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the MNS supported the BJP in Maharashtra. However, just six months later, both parties contested the state Assembly elections separately.

Responding to the growing speculation, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar said, “Raj Thackeray is the Head of MNS and Uddhav Thackeray is the Head of Shiv Sena (UBT). Whatever decisions they take are their prerogative. What is the point of you and me discussing it?”
