What’s behind the “Free Kaya” slogan that crashed HasanAbi’s livestream?

The name Hasan Piker, better known online as HasanAbi, took another blow when a masked protester interrupted his recent Ireland IRL stream on December 3, 2025, shouting Free Kaya. The chant, referencing his dog Kaya, revived the backlash from a viral October clip accused of showing Hasan allegedly using a shock collar on Kaya during a livestream. The moment made global rounds, and the “Free Kaya” slogan quickly became the rallying cry of his critics.For many, “Free Kaya” isn’t just a meme, it’s a symbol of alleged animal mistreatment and a demand for accountability. The slogan captures the frustration and outrage of viewers who believe the incident reflects broader issues with how some streamers treat pets on camera. No matter how Hasan responded, the presence of “Free Kaya” in public during an IRL stream demonstrated how digital controversies can spill into real life.

Why “Free Kaya” still haunts HasanAbi

The origin of “Free Kaya” traces back to October 7, 2025, when a clip from HasanAbi’s Twitch stream showed Kaya quietly sleeping in the background. As she stepped off her bed, the dog yelped, and Hasan appeared to reach out towards a remote or device, which many interpreted as a shock-collar button. The incident triggered immediate outrage online. HasanAbi denied using a shock collar, claiming that Kaya simply “clipped her dewclaw” while trying to get back onto the bed, not that he shocked her. He maintained the collar was only a vibration/tracker collar and insisted no harmful stimulus was used. Despite his explanation, many remained unconvinced. Some pointed to alleged past footage and collar-design details, such as a blinking light on Kaya’s collar as evidence supporting the shock-collar theory. Others argued that regardless of physical punishment, forcing a dog to remain motionless for hours in view of a streaming audience is inherently unethical, especially with a large breed dog like Kaya. When the “Free Kaya” chant surfaced during HasanAbi’s public appearance in Ireland, many saw it as more than a meme, a real-life protest. As reported, a masked man approached Hasan for a photo, held up a printed “Free Kaya” meme, and shouted the slogan, turning an online controversy into a public spectacle. The “Free Kaya” slogan remains powerful because it encapsulates a broader discussion about ethics, accountability, and content creation boundaries. For many critics, it’s not just about a single clip, it signals persistent concerns over how animals are treated by high-visibility streamers.
