In the conversation with Josh Horowitz for Happy Sad Confused, Ryder recalled how she was stopped in the middle of reading a scene to tell her that she was not attractive enough to be an actress. “They’re like, ‘I’m doing you a favor. You’re just not –. I mean, it was the 80s. I wasn’t, I didn’t have the look,” she continued in the interview, adding that she was told she would not be cast in the films. Meanwhile, David Harbour gave all the expressions that amounted to ‘what were they thinking? What were they talking about?’ However, Ryder admitted that while it was hard, she didn’t care much as she wanted to be a ‘character actor.’ Being obsessed with Ruth Gordon, the young Ryder had different goals. As for David Harbour, he opened up about how he fell in love with the actress on the set of ‘Stranger Things.’ Gushing over Ryder, the actor said in an interview with Esquire, “I think that people who have done that at a level where I believe them and fall in love with them in a fake reality, I just have such awe of it.” Moreover, he expressed his being in awe of her for feeling things in a way he could never, and being empathetic in an extraordinary way.
