US President Donald Trump on Wednesday reignited his decades-long feud with actress and comedian Rosie O’Donnell by declaring on Truth Social that he was “giving serious thought” to stripping her of American citizenship.“As previously mentioned, we are giving serious thought to taking away Rosie O’Donnell’s Citizenship. She is not a Great American and is, in my opinion, incapable of being so!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. But can a president actually do that? The short answer: no. The US Constitution’s 14th Amendment guarantees citizenship to anyone born on American soil, and O’Donnell — born in Commack, New York, in 1962 — is a US citizen by birthright.O’Donnell, 62, is best known for being one of Trump’s loudest celebrity critics, sparking a public feud that began in 2006 and has resurfaced repeatedly over the years. She has Irish roots and earlier this year moved to Ireland with her daughter, citing America’s “unsafe political climate.” The Trump-O’Donnell spat is nothing new. At a 2015 GOP debate, Trump famously responded to a question about his insults toward women with: “Only Rosie O’Donnell.” O’Donnell has since mocked him online, recently comparing him to “King Joffrey with a tangerine spray tan.”O’Donnell has also drawn fire herself after a tragic school shooting in Minneapolis, where she wrongly claimed the gunman was a Republican MAGA supporter. She later apologised for “not doing due diligence” before posting the video.
