Fuzzy Zoeller was born Frank Urban Zoeller Jr. in New Albany, Indiana. His father was also called “Fuzzy,” so he got the same nickname. He played junior college golf, later joined the strong Houston team, and turned professional in 1973.His biggest win came at the 1979 Masters, where he beat Ed Sneed and Tom Watson with a birdie on the second playoff hole. After the ball dropped, he threw his putter high in the air. Sky Sports wrote that he was the last Masters rookie to ever win the event.In the 1984 U.S. Open at Winged Foot, Zoeller thought Greg Norman had made a birdie, so he waved a white towel. Later he learned it was only a par. They played an 18-hole playoff the next day, and Zoeller won by eight shots, a huge margin.
