Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has once again stirred political controversy by claiming that he has sources within the Congress party who relay confidential information to him. His latest remarks have triggered curiosity and concern after he took to social media platform X, alleging that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made personal remarks against him in a closed-door meeting in Guwahati.

In a pointed post, CM Sarma quoted Rahul Gandhi as saying, “Take it in writing, Himanta Biswa Sarma will definitely be sent to jail,” during a Political Affairs Committee meeting attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and other senior leaders. “He came all the way to Assam just to say this, forgetting he himself is out on bail in multiple criminal cases,” Sarma wrote, ending his post with a jibe: “Enjoy the hospitality of Assam for the rest of the day.”

Take it in writing, Himanta Biswa Sarma will definitely be sent to jail’ — these were the exact words spoken by the Leader of the Opposition, Shri Rahul Gandhi, during his closed-door meeting with the Congress Political Affairs Committee in Assam. The comment has sparked questions about how a confidential political discussion could reach the Chief Minister so swiftly. According to political observers, this isn’t the first time CM Sarma has hinted at insider access. During the tenure of Bhupen Bora as Assam Congress chief, Sarma had made similar allegations, claiming he was aware of internal discussions and decisions taken by the party’s top brass, even alleging that “spies” existed in each candidate’s circle during the Lok Sabha campaign.

While Congress leaders such as Gaurav Gogoi have dismissed these assertions as baseless, Sarma’s repeated claims of intelligence within the opposition party continue to raise eyebrows. Whether this is strategic political posturing or an indication of deeper fissures within Assam Congress remains to be seen, but the Chief Minister’s latest statements have undoubtedly put the spotlight back on internal party dynamics.
