In a fresh salvo of verbal sparring, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took a dig at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, after a video surfaced showing the latter appearing to pick up what appeared to be a shampoo bottle in a departmental store during his visit to Gorakhpur.

In the video, CM Yogi was also seen talking to the store manager about the benefits of the GST reduction on these products, and was informed of the reduction.

While addressing a press briefing in Lucknow on Tuesday, the SP chief mockingly asked, “Yogi ji ko shampoo ki kya zarurat hai?” (Why does Yogi ji need shampoo?), in a pointed reference to Yogi Adityanath’s traditionally clean-shaven head.

#WATCH | Lucknow, UP: On GST 2.0, SP chief and MP Akhilesh Yadav says, “…It means that the GST you had implemented was faulty. It took you 9-10 years to realise that there is GST on roti, on milk. The remark drew laughter from those present and ignited debate across social media platforms.

He further attacked the Union government over the GST, saying that it took them nine years to understand the problems of ordinary people.

“…It means that the GST you had implemented was faulty. It took you 9-10 years to realise that there is GST on roti, on milk. It took you several years to find out that there is GST on products used by the poor…These are people who are running the Govt through promotion and emotions…” he said as quoted by news agency ANI.

On social media, Yadav’s comment has sparked memes and humorous takes, with hashtags like #ShampooPolitics and #BottledBlunders trending briefly on X. Some users defended the CM, calling the jibe unwarranted.

A user on YouTube wrote, “This is all he can do.. make a joke .. He doesn’t have the common sense to see that he was checking the prices! Such shameless and shameful mocking!”
