Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President Vijay on Friday announced his first state-wide political tour in Tamil Nadu, which will begin on September 13.

In a statement issued on X, Vijay said that he will begin his state-wide election campaign, titled “History returns to crown the deserving; your Vijay is coming”, from Trichy at around 10:30 am.

“Starting tomorrow (13.09.2025) at 10:35 AM near the MGR statue at the Gandhi Market Police Station, Marakkadai, Trichy, I, your Vijay, will be traveling across every district to meet you—my family—and raise my voice on your behalf, just as I promised in our Madurai convention,” the actor-turned-politician said.

He said that the TVK understands the pulse of the people and the current political landscape, and is moving forward with the noble vision of establishing a “conscience-driven democracy for the people.”

Vijay also took a dig at the ruling DMK government, saying that the people of Tamil Nadu have completely lost faith in the current government, which has been deceiving them with false promises and empty publicity stunts.

He further slammed the MK Stalin government for imposing several restrictions on his meeting by the police.

“As the leader of a political party, we aspire to meet the people in a democratic manner. In this context, unlike any other political leader in Tamil Nadu’s history, the police have imposed security restrictions only on our party for public gatherings,” he said.

“Rather than shirking its responsibility under the guise of security, the government and the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu must ensure the safety of our party members and the general public, upholding their moral obligation beyond political differences,” he added.

Police Restrictions

The September 13 event, where the actor is set to launch his campaign ahead of the Assembly poll next year, is restricted to only 25 minutes and no roadshow or reception will be allowed en route the venue, police said on Thursday. Campaigning will be done only in Tiruchirappali.

“There should not be any law and order issues during the campaign,” the police said. It is learnt that the TVK has accepted the conditions imposed on the party and agreed to ensure a smooth conduct of the event.

According to police, the campaign has been scheduled between 10.35 am and 11 am and the participants were expected to reach the venue by 9.35 am owing to “heavy pedestrian and commercial activity” in the area.

The campaign vehicles have been limited to the TVK leader’s vehicle and five others. Party functionaries have been prohibited from walking and no vehicle procession would be held. Also, the organisers should make arrangements for the parking of vehicles without disrupting public transportation.

Further, another among the 23 restrictions imposed on the TVK, asked the party to make arrangements for providing drinking water, first-aid, ambulance and firefighting equipment at the venue.

TVK Vijay’s State-wide Tour

According to the schedule released by TVK, the campaign will span 98 days until December 20, with events held mainly on Saturdays, except on December 5, which falls on a Sunday.

Vijay will tour Nagappatinam, Tiruvarur, and Mayiladuthurai on September 20, and will continue his campaign in Tiruvallur and north Chennai on September 27, as per the schedule.

He will visit Coimbatore, Nilgris, Tiruppur, and Erode on October 4 and 5; Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, and Thoothukudi on October 11; Kancheepuram, Vellore, and Ranipet on October 18; and south Chennai and Chengalpattu on October 25.

He will also visit Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, and Tirupattur; Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, and Villupuram; Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Cuddalore, Sivaganga, and Ramanathapuram in November (on Saturdays).

He will conclude his tour on December 20, most likely in Madurai.

According to TVK leaders, the campaign will be designed in a format that mirrors mass contact programmes of mainstream Dravidian parties, with a focus on roadshows and street-corner meetings.
