Enderman’s case sparks community backlash over YouTube’s automated decisions
After the termination, Enderman appealed immediately using the system YouTube suggested, but he said the appeal felt “useless” since the entire process looked automated. The response he got said his channel was linked to other terminated channels for copyright violations, though he insisted he had nothing to do with them.By November 4, other creators such as Old Money Documentaries, ScratchitGaming, and MAGEFIST came forward with the same issue. Their channels were also deleted for supposed “spam, scam, or deceptive practices”. Many said they had clean records and had never received a single strike before being removed.After massive backlash, YouTube’s official account on X finally responded to Enderman. The platform said some channels had been “mistakenly removed” and would be restored after review. The next day, several channels were indeed unbanned. However, many others were not, leading creators to question if AI bots were handling everything from suspensions to appeals.Several users criticized YouTube’s public statement, too, claiming it “sounded like it was written by AI.” Creators argued that the company’s growing reliance on automation had gone too far.
