West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday announced a major expansion of his cabinet, saying that 35 ministers will be sworn in on Monday as part of a reshuffle in the state government.

In a post on social media platform X, Adhikari said Governor RN Ravi will administer the oath of office at 11 am at Lok Bhavan.

“Tomorrow at 11 AM, the full Cabinet of the democratically elected Nationalist State Government of West Bengal will be sworn in at the Lok Bhavan,” he wrote.

The Chief Minister said the new ministers would formally take their oath at a ceremony in the presence of the Governor. He also confirmed that preparations had been completed for the swearing-in event.

“We stand committed to fulfilling the aspirations of the People of West Bengal,” he added.

Adhikari had taken oath as Chief Minister on May 9 after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the state assembly elections, ending the 15-year rule of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). At that time, only four ministers were inducted alongside him — Agnimitra Paul, Nisith Pramanik, Ashok Kirtania and Kshudiram Tudu.

Monday’s expansion is expected to complete the formation of a full Council of Ministers, with several senior BJP leaders likely to be assigned key portfolios in the state government.

The announcement comes as the new administration begins setting up its governance framework after the change of power in the state. The government has already moved to establish new commissions aimed at addressing institutional corruption and crimes against women.

According to the Chief Minister, both commissions will be headed by retired judges of the Calcutta High Court and will begin functioning from June 1. He said the government remains committed to transparency, accountability and strengthening public trust in governance.
