India and Jordan are looking to deepen cooperation in textiles and apparel, with the two countries exploring opportunities across trade, sourcing, investment and industry partnerships.

A high-level Jordanian delegation led by Zaher Al Qatarneh, secretary-general, ministry of investment, met Neelam Shami Rao, textiles secretary, in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss ways to expand bilateral engagement in the sector, the textiles ministry said in a statement.

The Indian side highlighted the potential for greater cooperation in apparel, fabrics, technical textiles, cotton textiles and made-ups, including opportunities to expand sourcing, investment and industry partnerships including joint ventures.

The two sides explored cooperation between leading fashion, design and textile institutions in the two countries. Areas under consideration include student and faculty exchanges, design innovation and the use of artificial intelligence for fashion forecasting.

India’s textile and apparel exports to Jordan stood at around $48 million in 2025, accounting for a 2.4% share of Jordan’s imports and making India the Gulf nation’s fourth-largest supplier.

“Both sides also discussed the possibility of reinvigorating the established institutional mechanism to facilitate structured and sustained engagement and follow-up on identified areas of cooperation in textiles & apparel,” the ministry said.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the textiles and external affairs ministries, representatives of the Indian textile industry and members of the Jordanian delegation.
