As UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced his resignation amid mounting political turmoil, once again a “cabinet member” gained attention; one who now awaits the 7th PM in 10 years – Larry the cat, “chief mouser to the cabinet office”Larry, the grey-and-white tabby who serves as Chief Mouser at 10 Downing Street, has become one of Britain’s most recognisable political mascots over the years.Following, Starmer’s announcement to step down, the official ‘parody’ account representing the cat made multiple posts with sarcasam and humour. “”I have accepted Keir Starmer’s resignation as my chief servant and have invited Andy Burnham to lay out details for how many meals a day he’ll give me,” it said on X, referring to one main the main challengers as Starmer’s successor.In another post, sharing a pic of the 5PMs whoresigned mid-term and Rishi Sunak, the only one who lost in elections, it said, “Another one bites the dust.”Originally rescued from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, Larry moved into Downing Street in 2011 and has since served under six British prime ministers, including David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer.Now regarded as a permanent fixture of British politics, the cat frequently appears in photographs with world leaders, journalists and government officials outside the prime minister’s residence.
