Arnold car crash: Police arrest suspect for attempted murder after car hits five men

A car hit five men in Arnold, a town in Nottinghamshire, at around 1.10 am on Saturday, leading to the arrest of a 40-year-old man suspected of attempting murder. According to the police statement, one of the victims is in critical condition in hospital, while the other four victims have received minor injuries during the incident that occurred in the town centre.Based on The Guardian sources, it appears that an altercation took place between the individuals in Arnold town centre before the accident, leading to a red Vauxhall Astra car approaching them. In addition, a man was subsequently arrested by the police, who is still under custody during further investigations.According to the Nottinghamshire Police, the driver abandoned his vehicle after leaving the scene of crime on foot. It appears that the police managed to arrest a suspect in connection with the case during the early hours of Saturday. In addition, it seems that the counter-terrorism officers play no part in the investigations since the threat is contained to the individual only.Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, the officer in charge of the investigation, said that police had updated the critically injured man’s family on any recent developments. The specialist team is now working with the families while hospital doctors treat the victim.Burrow told the community to refrain from any form of speculation at this time as detectives collect evidence relating to this case. She confirmed that investigations were ongoing, and the police were being very open-minded about the circumstances that led to this crime. The police force conducted several activities during the weekend at the accident scene. They searched the town centre for any evidence and interviewed eyewitnesses as well as analysed the video footage near the scene. Residents of the town reported an increased number of emergency services in certain parts of Arnold late at night. The police team has called upon any witness who witnessed the collision and any event before this incident to come forward. The investigators are specifically looking for any evidence such as CCTV, dashcam, doorbell and smartphone footage. The public was advised to share any useful information directly with the Nottinghamshire police or anonymously with the Crimestoppers service, as it might prove useful to investigators trying to recreate the sequence of events prior to the crash.Arnold residents awoke on Saturday to news of a major police investigation in the busy Nottinghamshire town. It is understood that police visibility was increased during the course of the investigation, which also included some traffic disruptions in certain areas around the incident location.
