Prominent BJP leaders and key NDA allies extended warm birthday greetings, paying tribute to veteran politician LK Advani as he turned 99 on Sunday, entering his 100th year.
They lauded his foundational role in establishing the BJP, calling him the “architect” of the saffron party, while also noting his contribution to nation-building.
Advani, a former deputy prime minister and Bharat Ratna recipient, was born on November 8, 1927. He co-founded the BJP in 1980 following decades of organisational work with the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, eventually becoming the party’s longest-serving president and fundamentally transforming Indian politics through his leadership of the 1990 Ram Rath Yatra.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah described Advani as a principled statesman and the architect of the party.
“The embodiment of service to the nation, the architect of the BJP and a principled statesman, respected Shri Lal Krishna Advani ji, today completes 99 years and enters the 100th year of his life,” Shah said in Hindi in a post on X, offering birthday wishes on behalf of millions of party workers.

Shah said Advani’s trajectory – rising from an ordinary family to become a founding member of the BJP, party president, and deputy PM – serves as a living example of public service and putting the nation first.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said Advani has set new benchmarks in public life.
“Throughout his long public life, Advani ji has set new standards of integrity, dedication and leadership, and through them has made an invaluable contribution to nation-building,” Singh said.

He said Advani’s contribution was pivotal from the founding moments of the BJP to expanding its presence into every corner of India, observing that his character and dedicated public service will remain an enduring source of inspiration for future generations.
Putting out a video message, BJP national president Nitin Nabin lauded Advani’s ideological and organisational leadership.
“From the Jana Sangh to the Bharatiya Janata Party, you have made an unforgettable contribution to expanding the organization, taking the nationalist ideology to every citizen, and turning the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement into a mass movement,” Nabin said, stressing that his integrity in public life and unwavering commitment to the party organisation continue to inspire all party workers.

Former party president JP Nadda commended Advani’s uncompromising principles.
“Your dedication to the nation, steadfastness of thought, unwavering commitment to principles, and tireless work in building the organization will forever be etched in golden letters in the history of Indian politics,” Nadda said, highlighting his foundational role in transforming the BJP into a robust organisation alongside his contributions to the nation.
