In 2013, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. paid $6.1 million for their LA home; 13 years later, they have cut the asking price to $9.95 million

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. have reduced the asking price of their longtime Los Angeles family home by $550,000, just three months after putting the property on the market. PEOPLE first reported the price cut, while Realtor.com provided additional details on the sprawling Mandeville Canyon residence. The couple has now lowered the asking price to $9.95 million, down from the $10.5 million price tag attached to the property when it was listed in May. The reduction came on Aug. 24, according to property records cited by PEOPLE. Gellar and Prinze bought the home in 2013 for $6.1 million, meaning the latest asking price is about $3.85 million higher than what they originally paid, before accounting for the cost of ownership, upgrades and other expenses over the years.

A six-bedroom family home in Mandeville Canyon

The property is located in Los Angeles’ sought-after Mandeville Canyon and spans roughly 7,300 square feet. PEOPLE describes the residence as having six bedrooms and six bathrooms. The discrepancy appears to stem from differences in how the rooms are classified in the listing materials.Designed in a Hamptons-inspired style, the house combines expansive interiors with extensive outdoor spaces. Among its standout features are a swimming pool, built-in spa, covered patio, outdoor kitchen and barbecue area. Inside, the home has an open-plan kitchen and living area, a formal dining room, multiple fireplaces and a wet bar. The primary suite includes a private sitting area, a large balcony overlooking the backyard, a spacious bathroom and two walk-in closets. The property also includes a gym, additional living spaces and a third-level den that has been used as a family and games area.

From family home to $60,000-a-month rental

The residence was not simply a place the couple owned, it was their family home for more than a decade. Gellar and Prinze, who married in 2002, raised their two children, Charlotte and Rocky, there. The couple briefly offered the property as a rental in March 2025 for $60,000 a month, according to property records cited by Realtor.com. Listing images suggest the family had already moved out by the time the home went up for sale.Their listing agent, Cindy Ambuehl of Christie’s International Real Estate Southern California, has described the house as particularly suited to family life, pointing to its privacy, natural light and practical layout. The couple has not publicly explained why they decided to leave the property. However, Realtor.com reported that Gellar’s social media activity suggested the pair may have already purchased another home.

A home that became part of their family story

The sale comes as Gellar and Prinze mark nearly a quarter-century of marriage. They celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary on Sept. 1, 2026, with Gellar sharing throwback photographs of the couple.Over the years, Gellar has also spoken about what home ownership has meant to her. Having grown up in a New York City apartment building, she previously described buying her first property at 20 as both overwhelming and a major personal milestone. Now, after 13 years in their Brentwood-area home, the couple is looking for a buyer willing to pay nearly $10 million for the next chapter of a property that once served as the backdrop to their family life. The $550,000 reduction may make the listing more tempting, but for now, the Hollywood couple’s longtime home remains on the market at $9.95 million.
