The speculations over Rohit Sharma’s retirement has come to a pause as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dismissed all such rumours.
The BCCI has dismissed rumours surrounding Rohit Sharma’s retirement, with Secretary Devajit Saikia clarifying that no discussions have taken place about his potential last international match, affirming his status as a regular member of the ODI team.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia clarified that there has been no such discussions within the board about Rohit Sharma playing for the last international match at the third ODI against England at Lord’s.
BCCI Dismisses Rohit Sharma Retirement Reports
Speaking to PTI, Saikia said there had been widespread speculation in the media about Rohit’s future but made it clear that no decision had been taken regarding his retirement.
“There are a lot of speculations going on in the media about Rohit Sharma’s future,” Saikia said.
“I want to firmly assert that there has been no such discussion that Rohit will be playing his last match at Lord’s on Sunday. Rohit is a regular member of the Indian ODI team, and he will continue to represent the country as long as he is in the scheme of things. In other words, Lord’s ODI won’t be his last match,” he added.
It is known that Rohit had already stepped down from Test cricket in 2025, that led further speculation that he is likely to make similar decision regarding the ODI format.
Rohit Sharma’s Form Under Spotlight
One of the key reason for such a speculation is due his latest game as he has managed to only secure one half century in eight matches this year. But it must also be known that his injuries has also affected his rhythm and availability during this period. Before his recent dip in form, Rohit remained one of India’s most important ODI batters and consistently delivered at the top of the order.
His experience and record in the 50-over format continue to make him a significant figure in Indian cricket.
