Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Wednesday declared that her nephew, Akash Anand, can only regain a prominent role in the party if his father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth, completely retires from politics.
Mayawati made this public declaration in a detailed post on X, stating that the BSP will only “sympathetically consider” restoring Akash Anand’s high-level responsibilities once former Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Siddharth takes a complete political “sanyas” (retirement).
The decision stems from Mayawati’s ongoing concern over the political interference of Akash Anand’s in-laws.
WHAT MAYAWATI SAID
In her message directed at Ashok Siddharth, Mayawati noted that he has been given multiple opportunities to mend his ways but failed to do so. She demanded that he now “set an example of greater sacrifice, penance, and selflessness” by leaving politics entirely to allow his son-in-law to work freely.
“Therefore, the top leadership of the BSP, paying special attention to these matters, is including those who have strayed or been misled, taking into account their conduct and behavior, etc., into the party. And against those who try even slightly to create obstacles in this path, disciplinary actions, etc., are also being taken, a prominent example of which is Shri Ashok Siddharth, who was once a Rajya Sabha MP of the BSP,” she wrote.

“…Keeping in mind the interests of the BSP Party and Movement, as well as his own family and the future of his son-in-law Shri Akash Anand, Shri Ashok Siddharth still has the opportunity to renounce his political ambitions, rise above personal interests, etc., and completely retire from politics. Only then will Shri Akash Anand be able to work freely in the party, and only then will the party sympathetically consider restoring his responsibilities so that he can play an active role in the party—this is the general consensus in the party,” she said.
AKASH’S SPACE IN BSP
On September 3, Mayawati stripped Anand of his role as the BSP’s National Coordinator, relegating him to an ordinary party worker. She publicly noted that he still needs to “become mature” and claimed his political decisions were being heavily influenced by his father-in-law.
Mayawati had already expelled Ashok Siddharth from the BSP on August 2, 2026, accusing him of prioritising personal ambitions, engaging in anti-party activities, and promoting internal factionalism.
